How MERC works.

Relative performance, priced as probability and settled onchain. The whole protocol fits on one page.

01 — The primitive

A MERC is two assets and an expiry.

Every market is defined by Asset A, Asset B and a settlement time. Nothing else. At creation, MERC records both start prices from onchain Chainlink feeds. At expiry it reads both end prices.

The asset with the higher percentage return wins. Winning shares settle at $1.00 USDG. Losing shares settle at zero.

02 — Pricing

Prices are implied probabilities.

The two sides of a MERC always sum to $1.00. A price of 64¢ means the market prices that asset as the 64% favourite to outperform.

There are no strike prices, no Greeks, no funding rates and no liquidation price. Your maximum loss is what you paid for your shares.

03 — Settlement

Settlement without opinion.

Settlement reads start prices and end prices from per-asset Chainlink feeds and compares relative return. There is no committee, no discretionary resolution and no dependency on a thin DEX pool that could be pushed around near expiry.

Robinhood Stock Tokens use standard ERC-20 interfaces and have onchain price feeds, and Robinhood Chain is EVM-compatible — which is what makes this settlement path readable directly by the contract.

04 — Durations

One day, one week, one month.

Markets open at the next market window and expire at 16:00 UTC on the settlement date. 1D markets resolve on the next session close; 7D and 30D markets track the corresponding calendar window.

05 — Brand

MERC. Markets Between Markets.

MERC is written in caps with a full stop in the wordmark. The acronym is not expanded. Assets referenced from Robinhood are called Robinhood Stock Tokens — not tokenized stocks — per Robinhood's brand guidelines.
